To mark their 20th anniversary, naisian release their first vinyl record on Sheffield micro-label “Do It Thissen Records”. Through multiple breakups, lineup changes, jobs and other bands, Sheffield progressive sludge band naisian have persisted and, like the cockroaches spilling out of Edgar’s sleeve in the seminal 1997 film Men in Black, just keep coming. “Sugar water” indeed. The band have become well known for implementing a wide variety of influences ranging from sludge and industrial, to noise and experimental rock, all in a cohesive and vibrant fashion. Scalar Waves sees the band continue to vacillate between huge riffs and carefully-crafted atmospheric passages over the course of its 4 tracks, building to a colossal crescendo with “Wharncliffe”. All the while; all three band members emit tortured screams and talk obtuse monologues, telling stories of the mystical and the surreal.

naisian remain firm in their commitment to a DIY ethos and Scalar Waves is their latest in a run of 2 full length albums and 6 EPs, all recorded and mixed by the band themselves. The band’s latest unholy alien spawn is due for release as a very limited edition lathe cut on the Sheffield micro-label “Do It Thissen Records” on Friday May 5th via the label’s bandcamp page. May 5th is the latest Bandcamp Friday which ensures that the vast majority of the sale price goes to supporting an important record label in the proliferation and documentation of the Sheffield music scene. Recently reformed as a 4-piece with their original lineup, naisian plan further recordings and performances in the near future.
